Man Utd is blocked from signing top targets due to ‘ridiculous’ UEFA rules

Manchester United have been BLOCKED from signing one of their top transfer targets this summer.

It’s set to be a busy summer transfer window for Man United as INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe look to make wholesale changes to the squad.

A centre-back is thought to be high on the club’s transfer wish-list following the departure of Raphael Varane, who will leave this summer once his deal expires.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is one of Man United’s key targets this summer as the club reportedly tabled a ‘disrespectful’ opening bid.

The Red Devils are also keeping tabs on Jean-Clair Todibo, who plies his trade at Nice.

And, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Man United’s pursuit of Todibo has hit a wall due to UEFA rules.

As INEOS have a controlling take in both Nice and Man United, UEFA rules does not permit deals between clubs who will be playing in the same European competition next season, with both sides qualifying for the Europa League.

Romano tweeted: “Jean-Clair Todibo deal for Man United is currently off and highly unlikely due to UEFA rules.

“Talks were advanced with all parties keen for months but Nice and Man Utd with same ownership playing same European competition next season means no green light.”

But the prospect of UEFA blocking Man United from signing Todibo has angered their fans as they referenced Manchester City’s transfer of Savio, who spent last season on loan at Girona, who are part-owned by the Blues.

Mark Goldbridge tweeted: “How are City able to do it then?”

A second tweeted: “It’s fine if Oil City FC do it with Girona but we can’t?? Cool. 116 charges then.”

A third added: “How does that work? Savio joined city lol.”

The 20-year-old Brazilian’s parent club, however, is Ligue 2 side Troyes, who are also a part of City Football Group, allowing a deal to be struck.
