According to reports, ex-Barcelona star Martin Braithwaite is considering taking over Espanyol after feeling “disrespected” by the team.
The attacker left earlier this summer, despite helping the Spanish team get promoted to La Liga.
Braithwaite signed with Espanyol in 2022 but wanted to leave last year in a bid to play football in the top division.
However, he was turned down for a transfer and given what he considered to be a laughable new deal before having to pay up a contract release clause to sign with Gremio.
Ex-Barcelona star Braithwaite on disrespectful treatment by Espanyol
According to Marca the former Barcelona striker, who expressed his dissatisfaction with how he was treated by Espanyol, is currently working out the possibility of purchasing the club.
“Now we have to enjoy it and see what happens in the future. I don’t know anything, I’ll talk about it in the next few days,” Braithwaithe said, as quoted by The Sun.
“A year ago the club offered me a renewal, but it was disrespectful.
“Let’s see if they want me to stay here because the offer I received a year ago shows that they don’t trust me,” he added.
Martin Braithwaite, 33, is one of the richest football players in the world, boasting a £250 million fortune—wealth amassed from his investment in a real estate business in 2017 that offers affordable housing in historically black neighborhoods.
