Fans have brutally mocked Cristiano Ronaldo after it was revealed what the Portuguese superstar told himself before taking another unsuccessful free-kick.
Ronaldo, 39, has wasted no time to score his first goal of the season for Al-Nassr against Al-Taawound in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.
His goal ensured he has scored in 23 consecutive seasons throughout his career, as the player looks to return to his peak after a disappointing Euro 2024.
However, during the Super Cup game, fans noticed the Portugal star giving a speech to himself before firing a free kick well over the bar.
Before taking the free-kick, he confidently told himself in Portuguese: ‘I’m the best.’
The phrase wouldn’t surprise his fans, but it was followed by a hilarious miss that didn’t even force the opposing team’s goalkeeper to jump.
Many football supporters began making jokes about the player’s failure, with one of them writing: ‘This brother is finished,’ accompanied by a crying emoji.
At the same time, others claimed he is not the player he once was.
One said: ‘He’s so done, yet he’s still one of the best’
A further fan wrote: ‘He’s no longer a good free kick taker’
However, one supporter praised the player’s incredible heading while criticising his free-kick abilities: ‘It would’ve been scarier if he was in the box waiting for the header’
On the other side, some Ronaldo fans supported the player by commenting: ‘Still the goat,’ while another added ‘One thing I admire about him is his confidence, you can’t take that away from him.’
Ronaldo has been heavily criticised for frequently missing free-kicks, particularly by Portugal fans, where he has scored only once out of 60 attempts.
His last free-kick goal was during the thrilling 3-3 draw against Spain in the 2018 World Cup group stage.
