Vinícius Jr. Shows Solidarity with Lamine Yamal After Discriminatory Spain Chants
Real Madrid superstar Vinícius Jr. has openly shown his support for Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal following a troubling incident involving discriminatory chants during the international break.
The gesture of solidarity comes after a difficult Tuesday night for Yamal. The 18-year-old attacker was in action for the Spanish national team during their pre-World Cup friendly clash against Egypt, which ended in a goalless draw. During the match, large sections of the home crowd in Barcelona were heard directing offensive chants at the visiting team.

Islamophobic Chants Target Egyptian Opposition
Throughout the game, segments of the fans were heard repeatedly chanting, “Whoever doesn’t jump is a Muslim.” While the discriminatory chants were primarily aimed at the Egyptian opposition, they deeply affected Yamal, who was visibly upset on the pitch.
As a devout Muslim, the Barcelona forward took to social media shortly after the match to address the incident and express his disappointment. In a powerful statement, Yamal clarified his stance:
“I am Muslim, alhamdulillah. Yesterday in the stadium, the chant ‘the one who doesn’t boo is Muslim’ was heard. I know it was aimed at the rival team and it wasn’t something against me — but as a Muslim, it doesn’t stop being a lack of respect and something intolerable. To those who sing these things: using a religion as a form of mockery on a pitch shows you up as ignorant and racist.”

Fierce Rivals Unite Against Discrimination
Despite playing for rival clubs, Yamal’s powerful message quickly drew the attention and backing of Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr. Having been the victim of severe racial abuse himself on numerous occasions in Spain, the Brazilian forward knows all too well the sting of stadium discrimination.
Upon seeing Yamal’s Instagram post, Vinícius Jr. responded by ‘liking’ the statement, making his support for the young winger crystal clear. The subtle yet significant gesture highlights a moment of unity between the stars of El Clásico, proving that some issues are much bigger than club rivalries.
The incident remains under investigation by local authorities as Spanish football faces renewed scrutiny over the behavior of its fans ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
