Thanks to the sheer drama surrounding the Real Madrid players and the childish egoes in the squad these days, the injuries haven’t been in the spotlight as much in the news lately. But make no mistake, Real have been hit very hard again by injuries this season, with stars like Rodrygo Goes, Eder Militao, and Thibaut Courtois missing extended period of time with serious injuries.
No player on Real Madrid – and very few players in world football – have been destroyed by injuries as much as left back Ferland Mendy. With Alvaro Carreras struggling badly and looking like a monumental 50 million euro flop, Alvaro Arbeloa has been trying to turn to other options at left back.

His most favored was actually Mendy, who played very, very well in his renewed rivalry with Manchester City in the Champions League. But just as soon as he returned from his constant injury woes, Mendy went down again with another serious injury.
Ferland Mendy is in huge trouble
As per usual, Mendy’s injury is worse than initially expected. Even the updated reports signified something worse than expected with a likely multi month absence requiring surgery carrying a similar five month timeline to the injury he required surgery for last year.
Well, now, Real Madrid fans are finding out that Mendy’s injury is even worse than that. According to COPE reporter Miguel Angel Diaz, via the Madrid Zone, the Frenchman’s latest ailment is extremely serious. Ferland Mendy has suffered a tendon tear with separation from the bone, and his expected time table for return is much more than the initially reported five to six months. Now, Mendy is going to have to miss more than a year of action.
At this point, Real Madrid fans have to wonder if he will ever recover. Mendy has been injured more often than he has been able to play, and though injuries have been a problem for him for years, going back to his chronic tibial pain a few years ago, the ailments are becoming both more frequent and more severe.
Mendy’s injury rate has prolonged recovery periods and high recurrence. Real Madrid, sadly, can no longer rely on him, but moving on from a player with an injury that will cost more than a year of action and carries with it a recovery that is likely far from certain is seemingly impossible. Mendy was once one of Real’s important players and a shutdown defensive fullback, but, now, he feels like a relic.
