Manchester United have reportedly identified Real Madrid powerhouse Aurelien Tchouameni as their primary target to fill the massive void left by Casemiro’s impending departure. At 26 years old, the French international is entering the absolute prime of his career, making him an ideal candidate to anchor the midfield at Old Trafford for years to come.
While prying a starting midfielder away from the Santiago Bernabeu is notoriously difficult, sources from Spain suggest that a blockbuster deal could be on the cards. Real Madrid is currently evaluating major squad investments and may need to offload top-tier talent to generate the necessary transfer funds.

The “Rodri” Domino Effect
The key to unlocking Tchouameni’s transfer to Manchester United might actually lie across town at the Etihad Stadium. Real Madrid President Florentino Perez reportedly harbors a “dream” of signing Manchester City’s midfield maestro and 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, Rodri.
Born in Madrid, Rodri is contracted with City until June 2027. While Pep Guardiola’s side has already tabled a lucrative contract extension, Real Madrid’s concrete interest could trigger a massive transfer domino effect. If the 15-time European champions aggressively pursue Rodri—or potentially Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, who has also been linked with a move to the Spanish capital—it would almost certainly pave the way for Tchouameni to pack his bags for Manchester.

A Broader Midfield Overhaul at Old Trafford
Tchouameni isn’t the only name on United’s wish list. The Red Devils are planning a comprehensive midfield rebuild, looking to recruit at least two top-level midfielders to ensure the squad is fully equipped for the grueling demands of the upcoming Champions League campaign.
That number could easily rise to three if Manuel Ugarte leaves the club this summer, following a largely disappointing stint in Manchester.
Domestically, United is also keeping a close eye on Nottingham Forest’s highly-rated English midfielder, Elliot Anderson. However, acquiring the former Newcastle prospect will be a monumental challenge. Manchester City is currently believed to be leading the race for his signature, and Forest has reportedly slapped an eye-watering, record-breaking price tag of over £100 million on their star player.
