However, the process is a performance review rather than a disciplinary investigation, and Tuchel is not currently facing the sack.
Argentina defeat under the microscope
England’s 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina is expected to be the main focus of the review.
After taking the lead, Tuchel’s side became increasingly cautious, while his substitutions introduced more defensively minded options.
The FA will examine whether England surrendered too much initiative and reduced their attacking threat at a crucial stage of the match.
Reports suggest some members of the England setup believed Argentina remained vulnerable and could have been beaten if England had continued attacking.
Why did England become more cautious?
Tuchel had initially demanded a proactive style. In the opening match against Croatia, he reportedly told his players that if they were going to lose, he preferred them to lose by attacking rather than defending.

Although some reports describe this as being “called in for questioning”, it is part of the FA’s normal elite-performance review process.
Senior officials are preparing a report covering tactics, squad selection, substitutions, set pieces, physical performance, travel and recovery. Its findings could influence England’s preparations for Euro 2028.

Despite the scrutiny, the FA continue to support Tuchel and expect him to lead England into Euro 2028.
The review is focused on learning from the World Cup, not dismissing the manager.
