Gabriel Jesus is facing the genuine threat of missing the UEFA Champions League final with Arsenal following his involvement in a heated, controversial altercation with an Atletico Madrid player after their semi-final clash.
The English giants secured their ticket to the grand finale by edging past Atletico Madrid with a 2-1 aggregate victory. Following a tense 1-1 draw in Spain during the first leg, Bukayo Saka’s solitary goal in the return fixture was enough to officially book Arsenal’s place in the final, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.

The Post-Match Bust-Up
While some sections of the media and public deemed Arsenal’s post-match celebrations slightly excessive, the real focus quickly shifted to an ugly touchline clash between Gabriel Jesus and Atletico Madrid defender Marc Pubill.
According to video footage circulating heavily on social media, Pubill aggressively charged into the area where the Arsenal players were celebrating after the final whistle. Tensions boiled over when the Spanish defender shoved striker Viktor Gyokeres from behind while Gyokeres was celebrating alongside teammates Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Jesus.
Mosquera immediately attempted to de-escalate the situation by pulling Pubill away from the crowd. However, during the scuffle, Gabriel Jesus allegedly slapped his opponent in the face. The situation required Arsenal teammates Myles Lewis-Skelly and Declan Rice to rush in, physically separate the two sides, and escort the furious Atletico defender down the tunnel.

Waiting on UEFA’s Verdict
Currently, UEFA is thoroughly reviewing the official match reports from the referee and the match delegate before making any final disciplinary decisions regarding Jesus.
According to SPORTbible, UEFA’s Disciplinary Body will rely heavily on this post-match report to determine the severity of the punishment and decide whether the Brazilian striker will be suspended for the showpiece final in Budapest.
A Frustrating Season for Jesus
Missing the final would be a devastating blow to Jesus in what has already been a difficult campaign. The Brazilian’s contributions to Arsenal have been heavily limited this season as he continues to manage the lingering effects of an ACL injury he suffered last year. He has made 26 appearances across all competitions, but only eight of those have been starts.
Despite his limited minutes, the former Manchester City forward remains deeply desperate to win the first Champions League title of his career with Arsenal. He previously reached the final with Man City in 2021, only to suffer a heartbreaking defeat against Chelsea.
