Manchester United has reached an agreement to send Andre Onana back to Trabzonspor on loan for another season.
Previously, the 30-year-old goalkeeper played for Trabzonspor during the 2025/2026 season after losing his starting spot to Senne Lammens. Journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu and journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a verbal agreement has been officially reached. The Turkish team will pay a loan fee and cover the player’s salary terms.
Joining Manchester United in 2023 for a fee of £47.2 million to replace David de Gea, Onana once carried high expectations. Former football director John Murtough once hailed him as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
However, a series of systematic errors caused the goalkeeper born in 1996 to lose the trust of the coaching staff and fans. Onana’s final match for the “Red Devils” was a defeat against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup back in August 2025.
Although Onana once expressed his desire to return to compete for the number 1 spot at Old Trafford, Lammens’s brilliant form during his debut season prompted the Manchester United board to decide to terminate plans of a reunion with him.
Currently, the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s lawyer is reviewing the final contract terms before officially moving to Turkey. His salary was previously reduced from £170,000 to £120,000 per week due to the team failing to secure a ticket to European competition.
