Kylian Mbappé and La Liga have officially apologised to Chinese fans after a controversial video sparked widespread criticism. The incident has already cost the Real Madrid star major sponsors and affected La Liga broadcasts in China.
Mbappé and La Liga Officially Apologise to Chinese Fans After Major Controversy
Kylian Mbappé and La Liga have officially apologised to Chinese football fans after the Real Madrid superstar became involved in a major controversy that has caused serious consequences.

The incident began when a video circulated online showing Mbappé apparently making a controversial comment about former Chinese leader Mao Zedong.
The footage quickly caused anger among Chinese fans, leading to strong reactions from major companies and television broadcasters.
Mbappé apologises after controversial comments
In the video, Mbappé appeared to discuss a popular internet meme showing his face placed on an image of Mao Zedong.
During the conversation, the French striker appeared to describe the person in the image as a Chinese dictator.

The comments were considered offensive by many people in China, although Reuters said it could not independently verify the original video.
On October 27, Mbappé publicly apologised and admitted that his words were inappropriate.
He explained that he never intended to hurt anyone and expressed his respect for Chinese people and their history.
La Liga officially apologises to Chinese fans
Following Mbappé’s statement, La Liga also issued an official apology on October 27.
La Liga president Javier Tebas personally apologised to Chinese fans and confirmed that Mbappé’s comments did not represent the Spanish league.

The organisation promised to work with clubs and players to improve cultural awareness and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Mbappé loses sponsors as China suspends La Liga broadcasts
However, the apologies came after the controversy had already caused major commercial problems.
Several Chinese companies, including Mengniu, Milkground and Eastroc Beverage, ended their partnerships with Mbappé.

Meanwhile, China Media Group, which oversees state broadcaster CCTV, announced the suspension of La Liga broadcasts and advertisements involving the French superstar.
The broadcaster also demanded apologies from Mbappé, La Liga and Real Madrid before further discussions could take place.
Although Mbappé and La Liga have now apologised, the long-term impact on the player’s commercial partnerships and La Liga’s relationship with China remains uncertain.
