The Argentina national team has reportedly received approval to use a special flag during the celebration, if they defeat Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.
According to information posted by the Transfer News Live account and citing Sky Sports News, celebrating with the banner “Malvinas belong to Argentina” has received consent from FIFA and the White House working group. The flag is expected to only appear during the post-match celebration, on the condition that Argentina wins the championship.
Following their 2-1 comeback victory over England in the 2026 World Cup semifinals, Argentine players drew attention when raising a banner reading “Las Malvinas son Argentinas”, meaning “The Malvinas belong to Argentina”. The banner was passed down from the stands while the team was celebrating.
Nevertheless, with FIFA’s latest moves, Argentina seemingly will not have to face any penalty following the aforementioned controversial action.
This image is no stranger to Argentine football fans. Following the 2022 World Cup championship in Qatar, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez once held a flag bearing the words “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” during the celebration. That moment was subsequently widely shared on social media.
