Neymar brightly shines after 2026 World Cup

Neymar made his mark with a brace in Santos’ 2-2 draw against Chapecoense in the Brazilian Serie A on the morning of July 26.

Playing at home, Santos quickly controlled the game and put great pressure on the opponent’s goal. After missing several chances, the home team opened the scoring in the 36th minute. From an assist by Alvaro Barreal, Neymar finished accurately, putting Santos 1-0 ahead before the first half came to a close. However, Chapecoense unexpectedly fought back strongly after the break. Just over 10 minutes later, Santos suffered another setback when Joao Ananias awkwardly scored an own goal in the 62nd minute, giving the visiting team a 2-1 lead.

Pushed against the wall, Santos pushed their line high in search of an equalizer. The home team’s relentless efforts were finally rewarded in the 89th minute, as Neymar coolly converted a penalty, completing his brace and sealing a 2-2 draw.

Throughout the match, Santos completely dominated the statistics with 21 shots, while Chapecoense managed a mere 5 attempts on goal. Neymar was the focal point of the attack, unleashing 9 shots, 5 of which were on target, earning him the Player of the Match award.

The result gained Santos an additional point, but they remain in 14th place on the standings. For Neymar personally, this is seen as a positive performance following a disappointing 2026 World Cup.

The Brazilian forward received no shortage of criticism after the tournament, as he failed to display the influence expected of him and made only modest contributions to the national team.
