The Magpies were hesitant to let their captain depart following the exits of other vital squad members—including Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon—earlier this window, yet the Premier League champions pushed aggressively to finalize the move.
He marks the third crucial player to depart Newcastle during the current transfer window, following Anthony Gordon (second left) and Sandro Tonali (second right), alongside manager Eddie Howe, who has likewise departed the club.
As previously reported by Daily Mail Sport, Guimaraes stunned Newcastle’s board weeks ago after communicating his wish to move on. Consequently, he was absent from the squad that flew out for their pre-season camp in La Manga on Friday.
