Inter Miami head coach Cristian “Kily” González has made a powerful statement about Lionel Messi, claiming that no other player can compare with the Argentine superstar.
The coach praised Messi after his outstanding performance in Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over New England Revolution on November 1.
González also believes the 39-year-old deserves both the MLS MVP award and the Ballon d’Or.
Inter Miami coach says nobody compares with Messi
Speaking about Messi’s chances of winning the 2026 MLS MVP award, González made his opinion very clear.
“Nobody compares with him, with all due respect to his colleagues,” the Inter Miami coach said.
González explained that Messi continues to perform at an incredible level despite his age.
He also made another surprising statement about the Ballon d’Or.
“Just like he deserved the Ballon d’Or,” González added.
His comments came shortly after Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, with Messi missing out on a ninth award.
Messi delivers another incredible performance
Messi once again proved his importance during Inter Miami’s comeback victory over New England Revolution.
The Argentine provided an assist for Germán Berterame’s equaliser in the 69th minute.
He then scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory.
Messi now has 26 goals and 16 assists in the 2026 MLS season.
The victory also helped Inter Miami qualify for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Messi could make MLS history again
Messi has already won the MLS MVP award in 2024 and 2025.
Now, the Inter Miami captain is in a strong position to become the first player to win the award three years in a row.
González believes Messi deserves the honour because of his incredible performances and continued influence on the team.
However, the 2026 MLS MVP winner has not yet been officially announced.
At 39, Messi continues to break records and play a major role in Inter Miami’s success.
And for his coach, the message is simple: nobody compares with Lionel Messi.
