Julián Álvarez changes his view on Arsenal after failing move to Barcelona

Julián Álvarez is reportedly beginning to seriously consider Arsenal as Atlético Madrid continue to block a move to Barcelona, giving the Gunners fresh hope of completing a blockbuster transfer.

Julián Álvarez changes Arsenal stance after Atlético block Barcelona move

Arsenal have received a major boost in their pursuit of Julián Álvarez, with the Atlético Madrid striker reportedly becoming more open to a move to North London.

Gary Neville backs Arsenal to comfortably win the Premier League title

Álvarez had previously been strongly focused on joining Barcelona and appeared reluctant to consider a return to the Premier League.

However, Atlético’s refusal to negotiate with Barcelona, combined with growing tension surrounding the Argentine’s future in Madrid, has reportedly forced him to reconsider his options.

Álvarez begins to consider Arsenal

Reports in Spain suggest Álvarez is now seriously considering Arsenal as a possible destination for the first time during the current transfer saga.

The Gunners have maintained their interest throughout the summer, but one major obstacle has always been the player’s preference for Barcelona.

Arsenal have been reluctant to commit an enormous transfer fee unless they are convinced Álvarez genuinely wants to become part of Mikel Arteta’s project.

That situation may now be changing.

Atlético close the door on Barcelona

Barcelona remain interested in Álvarez, but Atlético Madrid have taken an extremely strong position against selling one of their biggest stars to another La Liga club.

Atlético have reportedly made it clear that there is virtually no possibility of allowing Álvarez to join Barcelona this summer.

The club’s stance means the striker is increasingly facing a choice between remaining in Madrid or considering an alternative destination abroad.

That has suddenly placed Arsenal in a much stronger position.

Arsenal remain in contact over blockbuster deal

Arsenal have already made contact regarding the conditions required to sign the former Manchester City striker.

Sporting director Andrea Berta’s previous relationship with Atlético could also prove important if negotiations accelerate before the transfer window closes.

Reports suggest Atlético value Álvarez at around €150 million, although different figures have circulated regarding what could ultimately convince the Spanish club to negotiate.

There is currently no confirmed agreement over a transfer fee and Arsenal have not had an official bid accepted.

Gunners could prepare huge offer

Some reports have suggested Arsenal could be prepared to increase their financial commitment if Álvarez gives a clear indication that he wants the move.

Figures between €120 million and €135 million have been mentioned in connection with a possible Arsenal approach, but those numbers have not been officially confirmed by either club.

The key development is therefore not the size of a potential bid. It is Álvarez’s reported change of attitude towards joining Arsenal.

Atlético tension adds another twist

Álvarez’s situation at Atlético has also become increasingly uncomfortable.

The Argentine was recently booed by sections of the club’s supporters during the draw with Villarreal, adding further pressure around his future.

Reports in Spain suggest that experience may have contributed to his willingness to consider a fresh start.

Álvarez also missed a recent Atlético training session, although the club said his absence was caused by illness rather than any attempt to force through a transfer.

Arsenal still face major obstacles

Despite the latest development, a move to the Emirates is far from complete.

Arsenal still need Álvarez to fully commit to the transfer, while Atlético would have to accept a huge financial package for one of their most important players.

There is currently no agreement on personal terms, no accepted transfer fee and no confirmation that Atlético have decided to sell.

But Arsenal’s chances appear stronger than they were only days ago.

Álvarez spent much of the summer waiting for Barcelona. With Atlético firmly blocking that route, Arsenal may now have their biggest opportunity yet to bring the World Cup winner back to the Premier League.
