Man United unexpectedly cancels Brazilian player post-World Cup deal

MU has decided to cancel the recruitment of midfielder Ederson from Atalanta after the Brazilian player failed his final medical examination.

MU cancels the Ederson deal. According to information from Sky Sport Italy, Ederson underwent a medical examination on July 10, right after concluding his journey with the Brazil national team at the 2026 World Cup. The evaluation results caused the MU leadership to decide not to proceed with completing the contract, while simultaneously sending a notification to Atalanta regarding the termination of the agreement.

Previously, the two clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of around £35 million since June. However, because Ederson was busy focusing with the national team to participate in the World Cup, the medical examination process was postponed until after the tournament concluded.

The biggest concern of the “Red Devils” stemmed from the knee meniscus injury that Ederson suffered last season. This injury once caused the midfielder to be sidelined for about a month before returning to the pitch. However, experts believe that this is a type of injury that should not be taken lightly as it could have a long-term impact on a player’s form as well as career longevity.

The new move by the “Red Devils” created a huge surprise because the deal was once considered almost completed. Even so, the medical examination results caused the Manchester team to change their plans and decide not to risk investing in a player who has not fully met the physical requirements.

On the contrary, Atalanta still maintained their stance that Ederson is completely healthy. The Serie A representative is confident that the Brazilian midfielder is reaching his best physical condition and is ready to return to training as well as playing with the team in the new season.
