Messi Closes In on Incredible Record That Ronaldo May Struggle to Reach
Lionel Messi is moving closer to another incredible football milestone, with Cristiano Ronaldo facing a difficult challenge to match the Argentine superstar’s latest numbers.
The 39-year-old scored once and provided an assist as Inter Miami defeated New England Revolution 2-1 on November 1.
That performance took Messi to an incredible 1,365 career goal contributions, leaving him just 35 away from reaching 1,400.
Messi moves closer to historic 1,400 milestone
According to statistics reported by GOAL, Messi has now scored 937 goals and provided 428 assists in 1,184 official matches for club and country.
His combined total of 1,365 goal contributions shows his incredible ability to both score goals and create chances for his teammates.
On average, Messi has directly contributed to a goal every 71 minutes throughout his career.
His recent performances have also been impressive, with 36 goal contributions in his last 27 matches for Inter Miami and Argentina.
Messi holds huge advantage over Cristiano Ronaldo
While Ronaldo remains ahead in career goals, Messi has a significant advantage when assists are included.
The Portuguese superstar has scored 985 goals and provided 261 assists in 1,343 appearances, according to the same statistical comparison.
That gives Ronaldo 1,246 goal contributions, compared to Messi’s 1,365.
The Argentine therefore leads his longtime rival by 119 combined goals and assists.
Ronaldo still has more career goals, but Messi’s incredible number of assists gives him a major advantage in this particular statistic.
Another historic achievement awaits Messi
At 39, Messi continues to produce outstanding performances for Inter Miami.
He now needs just 35 more goals or assists to reach the impressive total of 1,400 career goal contributions.
Although Ronaldo could still reach that milestone in the future, the current gap makes the challenge difficult.
With Messi continuing to score and create goals, the Argentine legend is moving closer to another extraordinary achievement in football history.
