Raúl Asencio convicted as Real Madrid defender faces separate court case
Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has been convicted of drink-driving in Spain while facing a separate, unrelated court case involving an alleged sexual-video privacy offence.
The 23-year-old admitted driving over the legal alcohol limit after police stopped him in Gran Canaria in August.
He was fined €14,400 and banned from driving for eight months.
This conviction is not connected to the separate sexual-video case, in which Asencio has not been convicted.
Asencio was stopped in Gran Canaria
Police stopped Asencio early on August 16 while he was driving a Porsche Macan GTS on the GC-1 motorway in southern Gran Canaria.
Spanish reports said two breath tests recorded approximately 0.90 mg/l and 0.88 mg/l, both significantly above the legal limit and the threshold for a criminal offence.
No accident or dangerous driving was reported.
Real Madrid defender admitted the offence
Asencio appeared in an expedited court procedure in San Bartolomé de Tirajana on August 19.
He admitted the offence, accepted the proposed punishment and reportedly expressed regret.
The court imposed a €14,400 fine and an eight-month driving ban.
The fine reportedly consists of a daily penalty of €120 over four months.
Real Madrid could consider internal action
Spanish reports suggest Real Madrid are considering whether to take further action under the club’s internal regulations.
However, the club has not publicly confirmed any additional punishment.
A separate court case is ongoing
Asencio is also involved in a separate case in Gran Canaria concerning an alleged sexual video recorded in 2023 without the consent of the women involved.
He has not been convicted in this case.
Prosecutors accuse him of receiving the video and showing it to another person while allegedly knowing it had been recorded without consent.
Prosecutors had sought prison time
Prosecutors have sought two years and six months in prison for Asencio over two alleged privacy offences.
However, the two women reportedly withdrew their private accusations after he apologised and paid undisclosed compensation.
Prosecutors could withdraw their request for a conviction if the women formally confirm their forgiveness before the court.
Asencio’s position in this case therefore remains unresolved.
Trial continues
The proceedings in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are scheduled across September 3, 4 and 7, with further testimony and legal arguments expected.
Until the trial concludes, it would be inaccurate to say Asencio has been convicted in the sexual-video case.

Asencio is dealing with two separate legal matters:
- €14,400 fine for drink-driving
- Eight-month driving ban
- Conviction after admitting the offence
The sexual-video case remains ongoing, with no conviction against him at present.
Real Madrid await further developments
