Real Madrid former makes brutal ‘nobody wants Vinicius’ claim

Vinicius Jr has become the centre of another heated debate after Santi Cañizares claimed no club wanted to sign the Brazilian, despite Real Madrid recently handing him a contract until 2032.

Vinicius hit with brutal ‘nobody wants him’ claim just weeks after Real Madrid renewal

Vinicius Jr has been targeted by a controversial new claim from former Real Madrid goalkeeper Santi Cañizares, who suggested that “nobody wants” the Brazilian superstar.

The comments arrived only weeks after Real Madrid ended speculation surrounding Vinicius’ future by handing him a new long-term contract until 2032.

However, Cañizares has now offered a very different interpretation of why the Spanish giants ultimately kept their No.7.

Cañizares makes brutal Vinicius claim

Speaking on El Partidazo de COPE, Cañizares discussed the situation Real Madrid faced before Vinicius signed his new deal.

He argued that Madrid effectively had the choice of selling the winger or extending his contract before he entered the final year of his previous agreement.

Cañizares then made the striking claim that “nobody wants him”, suggesting there was little genuine market interest in Vinicius.

He also referenced Newcastle United while discussing what level of club might be interested in signing the Brazilian.

Claim clashes with Real Madrid’s position

The comments have quickly attracted attention because they stand in sharp contrast to Real Madrid’s public backing of Vinicius.

The Spanish giants recently extended his contract until June 2032, underlining his importance to the club’s long-term plans.

Vinicius has already won multiple major trophies with Madrid and remains one of the biggest names in world football.

There have also previously been reports of interest from other major European clubs, meaning Cañizares’ statement should be viewed as his opinion rather than an established fact.

Mourinho recently defended Vinicius

The controversy comes shortly after José Mourinho publicly defended Vinicius following Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol.

Mourinho claimed the Brazilian regularly receives excessive provocation and rough treatment from opponents, describing some of what he faces on the pitch as a form of “bullying”.

The Real Madrid coach also acknowledged that Vinicius must continue working on controlling his own reactions because almost everything he does attracts enormous attention.

Vinicius once again at centre of debate

Vinicius has become accustomed to being one of the most discussed players in Spanish football, both for his performances and the controversies surrounding him.

This latest debate is unlikely to change his immediate future after Madrid committed to him until 2032.

But Cañizares’ extraordinary “nobody wants him” assessment has added another explosive chapter to the constant conversation surrounding one of Real Madrid’s biggest stars.
