Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly preparing to directly express his desire to leave Newcastle to join Arsenal right in the 2026 summer transfer window.
According to British media, the Brazilian midfielder will rejoin Newcastle at La Manga (Spain) following his post-2026 World Cup break and hold a meeting with new manager Matthias Jaissle and sporting director Ross Wilson.
The purpose of the meeting is to communicate his desire to part ways with St James’ Park after four years. Guimaraes is reportedly said to have identified Arsenal as his preferred destination and wants to play under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal are preparing an offer worth over £75 million for the 28-year-old midfielder. Although Newcastle maintain they have not yet received an official offer, confidence within the Emirates side is growing amidst reports that Guimaraes has reached personal terms with Arsenal.
Guimaraes has a contract with Newcastle until 2029, but major upheavals at the club are seen as factors prompting him to consider leaving. Eddie Howe’s departure from the head coaching role alongside the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have made the Brazilian captain want to seek a more competitive project.
Matthias Jaissle, who is set to officially replace Howe, is expected to persuade Guimaraes to stay. However, if the player insists on submitting a transfer request, Newcastle could face immense pressure during negotiations.
Parallel to Guimaraes’ situation, Newcastle also face the risk of losing Joelinton, while goalkeeper Nick Pope could lose his number-one spot following the arrival of Lukas Hornicek.
If the deal is completed, Guimaraes will become one of the most expensive signings in Arsenal’s history and a key addition to their ambition of defending the Premier League title as well as competing in the Champions League for the 2026/27 season.
