Lionel Messi continues to leave his mark off the pitch by donating €80,000 to help residents of the Sierra Oeste region (Spain) recover from the aftermath of a severe wildfire.
According to Spanish media, Lionel Messi donated €80,000 to support recovery efforts following the wildfire in Sierra Oeste. This is an area located west of the capital city Madrid, which was the hardest hit during the recent blaze.
The fire burned over an area of more than 27,000 hectares, affecting 17 municipalities in the region. Hundreds of homes were destroyed or damaged, and many structures were severely impacted. At the peak of danger, more than 55,000 residents were forced to evacuate to ensure their safety.
Messi’s gesture quickly earned recognition from local authorities. President of the Community of Madrid—Isabel Diaz Ayuso—publicly thanked the Argentine superstar. On social media platform X, she wrote: “I want to express my gratitude to Messi. The people of Madrid hope to welcome him soon and give him a round of applause to express our gratitude”.
According to Mrs. Ayuso, this donated sum will be used to repair damaged infrastructure, while also helping residents in the affected areas stabilize their lives soon after the wildfire.
This is not the first time Messi has participated in charitable activities. Over many years, through the Leo Messi Foundation, the Argentine forward has supported numerous philanthropic projects in healthcare, education, and humanitarian relief across many countries around the world.
