Neymar receives final decision after Brazilian Cup drama

Neymar will not face disciplinary action from the Brazilian Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) after the heated incident following Santos’ match against Remo in the Brazilian Cup on Tuesday, August 4. After reviewing video footage of the event, prosecutors decided not to include the Santos captain among those charged.

However, Remo received three separate charges linked to the events after the final whistle. Defender Marllon, football supervisor Diego Ziegg, and the club itself will all appear before the STJD.

The charges were officially announced by the STJD Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday, August 6, with the hearing scheduled for Friday, August 7, at 10:00 a.m.

Neymar Not Included in the Charges

The incident happened after Santos secured a 1-0 victory, which sent the club into the quarter-finals of the Brazilian Cup. Tensions rose in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms and later continued in the mixed zone at Mangueirão Stadium.

According to the reports reviewed by prosecutors, members of the Remo delegation and club officials directed insults at Neymar after the match. The Brazilian forward responded by walking toward the barrier separating the two groups.

The Santos No. 10 danced in front of the crowd and repeatedly shouted “eliminado” (“eliminated”), while also chanting “aqui é Santos!” (“this is Santos!”) to celebrate his team’s victory.

The incident could have led to disciplinary action against Neymar. Prosecutors considered charging him under Article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), which covers behavior considered against sporting discipline or ethics. If found guilty, the punishment could have ranged from one to six matches.

However, referee Anderson Daronco did not mention the incident in his official match report. Because of this, prosecutors relied on video footage before making their final decision.

After reviewing all the evidence, the STJD decided not to charge Neymar, meaning he will not face any punishment over the incident.

Remo Faces Three Disciplinary Charges

Remo defender Marllon has been charged under Article 250, Paragraph 1, Item I of the CBJD, which covers hostile or unsporting behavior.

Football supervisor Diego Ziegg has been charged under Article 258, Paragraph 2, Item II, relating to conduct that goes against sporting discipline or ethics.

Meanwhile, Remo have also been charged under Article 213, Item I of the CBJD, which holds clubs responsible if they fail to prevent or control disorder involving their players, staff, or supporters.
