Rumours about a possible wedding between Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and his fiancée Georgina Rodríguez caused huge excitement on Saturday. Thousands of fans gathered in the streets of Funchal, Madeira, believing that the couple were finally getting married.
However, the wedding actually belonged to a completely different couple. Ronaldo’s response to the confusion added a funny and sarcastic moment to the story.
The Al-Nassr star reacted to an Instagram post from “Jornal da Madeira” with a laughing emoji. His reaction came around a year after he announced his engagement to Georgina, whom he first met in 2016.
Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, had a more serious response. She wrote on the same platform: “Why do these people think that Ronaldo would get married without ever announcing it himself?”
Ronaldo previously said that his wedding would not be a huge event, explaining that Georgina would prefer a small and private ceremony. According to France’s “RMC” network, those comments have increased speculation that the couple could secretly get married away from the public eye.
Despite the latest misunderstanding, some people in Madeira still believe Ronaldo and Georgina could get married this summer, possibly within the next few days.
The rumours became even stronger after reports claimed that 25 taxis with tinted windows had been booked. Other sources also suggested that the wedding could happen “next week”.
