The winger was a surprise absentee from United’s squad for their 2-0 Premier League defeat to Hull City after suffering a problem during training.

Michael Carrick initially described the issue as a minor “niggle”, but subsequent reports suggest the injury could be more serious than first hoped.

Amad suffers ankle injury in training

Amad is understood to have suffered an ankle injury during a training session ahead of the opening Premier League fixture.

United immediately began assessing the problem, with Carrick confirming before the Hull match that the 24-year-old had picked up an issue late in the week.

Initial assessments have now reportedly indicated that Amad could be unavailable for around six weeks.

Manchester United have not yet officially confirmed an exact recovery timeline, meaning the six-week absence should currently be treated as an early estimate.

Manchester derby could be in doubt

If Amad does require the full six weeks to recover, he would miss several important fixtures during the opening stages of United’s season.

His availability for the Manchester derby in September would also be in serious doubt.

A six-week recovery period could potentially keep him out until the beginning of October, although his return will depend on further medical assessments and rehabilitation.

Another blow for Michael Carrick

The timing of the injury is particularly frustrating for Manchester United.

Amad had featured regularly during pre-season and was expected to play an important role in Carrick’s attacking plans.

United then opened their Premier League campaign with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City, increasing the pressure on the team to respond quickly.

Losing one of their most dangerous attacking options for several weeks would make that task even more difficult.

United waiting for clearer diagnosis

For now, there remains an important distinction between what Manchester United have confirmed and what has subsequently been reported.

Carrick has confirmed that Amad suffered an injury in training and is being assessed, while reports suggest the problem involves his ankle and could result in a six-week absence.

United will now hope further examinations provide a more positive outlook, but the early signs suggest Amad may be facing a longer spell on the sidelines than initially expected.
