He argued that Madrid effectively had the choice of selling the winger or extending his contract before he entered the final year of his previous agreement.
Cañizares then made the striking claim that “nobody wants him”, suggesting there was little genuine market interest in Vinicius.
He also referenced Newcastle United while discussing what level of club might be interested in signing the Brazilian.
Claim clashes with Real Madrid’s position
The comments have quickly attracted attention because they stand in sharp contrast to Real Madrid’s public backing of Vinicius.
The Spanish giants recently extended his contract until June 2032, underlining his importance to the club’s long-term plans.

The controversy comes shortly after José Mourinho publicly defended Vinicius following Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol.
Mourinho claimed the Brazilian regularly receives excessive provocation and rough treatment from opponents, describing some of what he faces on the pitch as a form of “bullying”.
The Real Madrid coach also acknowledged that Vinicius must continue working on controlling his own reactions because almost everything he does attracts enormous attention.
