Lamine Yamal has moved into first place in the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or according to prediction market Polymarket, overtaking previous leader Harry Kane after a dramatic change in the latest odds.

The Barcelona star is currently priced at around a 45.1% implied chance of winning football’s biggest individual award.

Kane, who had previously occupied first place, has dropped narrowly behind at around 42.1%.

It means Yamal has now emerged as the No.1 candidate on the prediction market with less than a month remaining before the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The latest Polymarket-linked market snapshot places Yamal at the top of the standings.

The biggest story is the extremely close battle between Yamal and Kane.

Harry Kane had been the favourite

The change at the top is particularly interesting because Kane had been leading only shortly before Yamal’s rise.

On September 27, reports using Polymarket data still listed the Bayern Munich striker as the leading candidate.

Yamal was second at that stage.

But the market has now moved strongly towards the Barcelona star, pushing him ahead of Kane into first place.
