Zinedine Zidane has made another piece of France history after becoming only the fourth national-team coach to win his first two matches in charge.

Zinedine Zidane has joined a very exclusive group in France history after winning both of his first two matches as national-team coach.

France followed their 1-0 victory over Turkey with another 1-0 win against Belgium.

The result means Zidane has started his new job with:

And according to historical statistics, only three France coaches had achieved the same start before him.

Zidane becomes only the fourth

Zidane has become only the fourth coach in France history to win his first two matches in charge of the national team.

The three previous coaches to achieve the feat were:

Henri Guerin in 1964

Henri Michel in 1984

Aime Jacquet in 1994

Now, more than three decades later, Zidane has added his name to the list.

It is another historic milestone in what has been an almost perfect beginning to his France career.

Deschamps did not manage the same start

The statistic becomes even more interesting when compared with Zidane’s predecessor.

Didier Deschamps went on to enjoy a hugely successful spell with France.

He won the 2018 World Cup and reached another World Cup final in 2022.

But Deschamps did not win both of his first two matches as France coach.

His first game ended in a 0-0 draw against Uruguay in August 2012.

That means Zidane has already achieved a starting record that Deschamps never managed.

Victory over Turkey started the run

Zidane’s first match as France coach came away against Turkey.

Kylian Mbappe scored the winning goal.

The victory was already historic because Zidane became the first France coach since Aime Jacquet in 1994 to win his first match in charge.

That ended a 32-year wait for France.

Olise completes the perfect start

France then travelled to Belgium for Zidane’s second match.

The game remained goalless for most of the evening.

But Michael Olise came off the bench and scored a late winner in the 88th minute.

France won 1-0 again.

That second victory officially placed Zidane inside the rare four-man group.

Zidane’s early success has not only come from winning matches.
