Lamine Yamal could make Ballon d’Or history in 2026 after organisers highlighted his chance to become the first player to win the Young Talent award three years in a row.
Ballon d’Or Organisers Make Special Announcement About Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal has received special attention from the Ballon d’Or organisers ahead of the 2026 ceremony after they highlighted a historic record he could achieve in London.
The Barcelona star is nominated for both the men’s Ballon d’Or and the Young Talent of the Season award.
But it is the second category that could allow Yamal to make history.
If he wins again in 2026, he will become the first player to claim the Young Talent award three years in a row.
Ballon d’Or highlights Yamal’s historic chance
The official Ballon d’Or website published a special article focusing on Yamal and the record he could set at this year’s ceremony.
Organisers described the possibility as an unprecedented historic milestone.
Yamal won the Young Talent award in 2024 and successfully defended it in 2025.
Another victory in 2026 would complete a historic hat-trick.
Yamal could become the first to win three in a row
No player has ever won the Young Talent award in three consecutive years.
Yamal now has the opportunity to become the first.
He won his first title while still one of the youngest stars in European football and has continued to improve every season.
At 19, he is now close to achieving another record that would separate him from every previous winner.
Yamal is also fighting for the main Ballon d’Or
The Barcelona winger is not only competing for the young-player prize.
He is also one of the nominees for the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or.
That makes his position at this year’s ceremony especially interesting.
Yamal has the chance to leave London with one of the biggest individual awards in football, while also chasing a record in the young-player category.
Another huge season for Barcelona star
Yamal’s place among the nominees comes after another impressive season.
According to Ballon d’Or’s official profile, he recorded:
57 appearances
25 goals
20 assists
He also added major team trophies to his record.
His performances for both club and country have helped make him one of the most discussed players in the 2026 Ballon d’Or race.
Champions League form adds to the excitement
Yamal has also continued his strong form in Europe.
He recently provided two assists in Barcelona’s 4-1 Champions League comeback win over Galatasaray.
That performance took him to 25 Champions League goal contributions before turning 20.
His latest European display has added even more attention around him before the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Special announcement does not mean Yamal has already won
There is one important point to remember.
The Ballon d’Or organisers have not confirmed Yamal as the winner of any award.
The official article only highlights the historic achievement he could reach if he wins again.
So this should not be treated as an early announcement of the final result.
Why the organisers are focusing on Yamal
Yamal has quickly become one of the biggest young stars in world football.
His ability to produce goals and assists at the highest level has already broken several age records.
Now the Ballon d’Or organisers have highlighted another piece of history that could soon belong to him.
A third straight Young Talent award would make his rise even more remarkable.
Historic night could be waiting in London
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on October 26 in London.
The event will mark the 70th edition of the famous award.
Yamal will enter the night with the chance to compete for the biggest individual trophy and also create history in the Young Talent category.
If he wins for a third consecutive year, Lamine Yamal will become the first player ever to complete that achievement.
Another record within reach
Yamal has already achieved more at a young age than most players manage in an entire career.
But the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony could give him another unique record.
And with the organisers themselves now highlighting the possibility, all eyes will be on the Barcelona star when the awards are announced in London.
