Man Utd Legend Berbatov Slams Players as Bruno Fernandes Controversy Grows

Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov has launched a strong attack on the team’s performance following their humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como on October 21, 2026.

The former United striker questioned the players’ effort and attitude after watching Michael Carrick’s side suffer another embarrassing result.

His comments came as captain Bruno Fernandes also faced criticism for publicly questioning the manager’s tactics.

Berbatov delivers brutal verdict on Man Utd players

Speaking on TNT Sports after the match, Berbatov expressed his disappointment with the way Manchester United performed against Como.

The Bulgarian former striker believed the Italian side had completely dominated United in almost every area of the pitch.

“It looked like men against kids,” Berbatov said.

He was particularly concerned about the difference in confidence, energy and determination between the two teams.

Berbatov also questioned whether every Manchester United player had given their best effort during the match.

The former striker suggested that such a poor performance would naturally raise questions about the quality of United’s squad and the direction of the club.

However, Berbatov’s criticism was aimed at the team as a whole, rather than Bruno Fernandes personally.

Bruno Fernandes faces criticism after questioning Carrick

Meanwhile, Fernandes created further controversy with his comments after the defeat.

The Manchester United captain questioned the team’s decision not to press Como more aggressively.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Fernandes suggested that United had allowed their opponents too much time and space on the ball.

He believed a more aggressive pressing strategy could have made life much harder for the Italian side.

However, when asked whether the coaching staff had made a tactical mistake, Fernandes said it was something the manager and his staff needed to review.

His comments quickly attracted criticism from former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole.

Cole described the captain’s public questioning of Carrick’s tactics as “sacrilege”.

He argued that Fernandes should discuss tactical disagreements privately rather than speak about them in front of the media.

Michael Carrick responds as pressure grows

Carrick was also asked about Fernandes’ comments after the match.

The United manager explained that his team had tried pressing more aggressively during the second half but still conceded another goal.

He insisted that no tactical system can work properly if players fail to run, defend and support their teammates.

The former midfielder also accepted responsibility for the defeat and admitted that the performance was unacceptable.

United’s problems are becoming increasingly serious.

The 4-1 defeat to Como extended Manchester United’s winless run to seven consecutive matches across all competitions.

With results continuing to disappoint, questions are growing about both Carrick’s future and the players’ ability to turn things around.

Can Man Utd recover from another crisis?

Berbatov’s harsh assessment has added to the growing criticism surrounding Manchester United.

While the former striker believes the players must take greater responsibility, Fernandes has raised concerns about the team’s tactical approach.

There is no confirmed personal conflict between Fernandes and Carrick, but the public debate has increased the pressure on everyone at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will face Bournemouth in the Premier League on October 25, hoping to finally end their terrible run.

Can the Red Devils respond to their former stars’ criticism, or will their struggles continue?
