Bruno Fernandes has admitted Manchester United repeated the same mistakes as last season during their shock 2-0 Premier League defeat to Hull City, calling for more aggression, pressing and intensity.
Bruno Fernandes Delivers Brutal Man Utd Verdict After Shock Hull Defeat
Bruno Fernandes did not hide his frustration after Manchester United’s nightmare start to the Premier League season.

Michael Carrick’s side suffered a shock 2-0 defeat away to newly promoted Hull City, and the United captain admitted the performance contained worrying similarities to problems that hurt the team last season.
Speaking after the final whistle, Fernandes said United had made the “same mistakes as we did last season.”
Bruno admits old problems have returned
Fernandes was particularly unhappy with United’s opening stages at the MKM Stadium.
The midfielder felt Hull were given too much time to play during the first 20 minutes and argued that United needed to press with far greater aggression.
For Bruno, the biggest concern was not simply losing the game. It was seeing familiar weaknesses return immediately.
United had an entire summer to prepare for the new campaign, but their first competitive performance exposed many of the same issues.
United could not match Hull’s intensity
Hull played with greater physicality and aggression during key periods of the match.
Fernandes admitted United needed to match that level of intensity much better, especially in difficult away fixtures.

That assessment was supported by the numbers, with Hull dominating a large proportion of the first-half duels and aerial battles.
Despite United controlling most of the possession, the promoted side looked sharper when the game became physical.
Set-pieces prove costly again
The most frustrating part for Fernandes was that United knew exactly where Hull could hurt them.
Both goals came from set-piece situations.
Semi Ajayi opened the scoring from a corner before Nobel Mendy doubled Hull’s advantage following a free-kick.
Fernandes admitted United were aware of Hull’s strength from dead-ball situations but still failed to stop them.
That made the defeat even harder to accept.
Bruno’s reaction contrasts with Carrick
Carrick adopted a calmer tone after the match.
The United manager insisted there was no need to panic or start shouting after only one game and maintained that the defeat would not change the direction of the team.
Fernandes, however, was far more direct about what went wrong.

While Carrick focused on remaining calm, his captain highlighted recurring mistakes, poor pressing and a lack of aggression.
The two messages were different in tone, but neither suggested there was a personal disagreement between manager and captain.
Bruno did not blame Carrick
Despite his strong words, Fernandes did not publicly criticise Carrick.
His comments were directed at the team’s performance and collective standards rather than the manager.

There is therefore no evidence that the United captain has turned against Carrick.
Instead, Bruno appears to be demanding an immediate response from himself and his teammates.
United must respond quickly
The Hull defeat has already placed pressure on Manchester United after just one Premier League match.
The Red Devils dominated possession and produced 21 shots but failed to score, while defensive mistakes at set-pieces decided the game.
For Fernandes, the warning is clear.
United cannot afford to carry last season’s problems into a campaign in which expectations are significantly higher.
“Same mistakes as last season” is a brutal assessment after only Matchday 1.
Now Manchester United must prove those mistakes can finally be corrected.
