After Germany’s disastrous failure at the 2026 World Cup, Jurgen Klopp agreed to take over the hot seat of “Die Mannschaft”, replacing Julian Nagelsmann.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano used his familiar phrase “Here we go” to confirm that this deal was completed on the afternoon of July 5. The 59-year-old manager will sign a long-term contract with the German Football Association (DFB), marking the first time he returns to the coaching bench since parting ways with Liverpool in 2024.
The decision was made after Julian Nagelsmann resigned following Germany’s shock defeat to Paraguay in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup on June 30. Speaking on the Magenta TV channel recently, Klopp also confirmed that negotiations are progressing rapidly.
Currently, he is discussing with CEO Oliver Mintzlaff of the Red Bull group to terminate his contract early in his role as Global Head of Football. “I have confirmed the negotiations. The DFB is looking for a successor and they have contacted me,” the former Liverpool manager shared.
He also emphasized that the Germany national team needs fundamental systematic changes to resolve outstanding issues, instead of just assigning responsibility to his predecessor. The 59-year-old manager is expected to lead the Germany team to battle at EURO 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.
This event puts an end to speculations about Klopp potentially joining Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, or clubs in Saudi Arabia. Previously, he had left Liverpool in a state of exhaustion after many years of managing in the Premier League.
