On July 4, Kylian Mbappe drew attention with a misplay in France’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
In the 10th minute at Lincoln Financial Field (USA), the France captain confidently executed a technical move to bypass a Paraguayan player. However, the play did not go as intended as Mbappe let the ball go over the touchline, creating a rather clumsy situation.
The video clip capturing the moment quickly went viral across social media platforms. Many fans did not miss the chance to tease the Real Madrid forward, pointing out that even the world’s top superstars occasionally make mistakes in seemingly simple situations.
Even so, Mbappe quickly proved his class. In the 70th minute, the 27-year-old striker coolly converted a penalty, scoring the only goal of the match to help France overcome Paraguay and secure a ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup.
The strike continues to help Mbappe maintain the 2026 World Cup top scorer race with Lionel Messi, with both having 7 goals, while affirming his leadership role in the journey to conquer the championship for “Les Bleus”.
