Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed on social media that he has married his long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez.
The Portuguese superstar shared a photo showing two hands wearing gold wedding rings, following weeks of speculation that the couple were preparing to get married.
Ronaldo and Rodriguez, who have been together since 2016, reportedly married in a “private and intimate” ceremony in Portugal, with their five children attending. According to People, the wedding took place in Cascais.
Ronaldo’s friend Piers Morgan was among those who congratulated the newly married couple. He wrote: “Congrats to my friends @Cristiano & Georgina on their wedding today in Portugal! They’re a great couple, and I wish them a long and happy marriage together. Parabéns!”
Ronaldo, 41, first met Rodriguez around a decade ago while he was playing for Real Madrid. At the time, she was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid. The couple have five children in their family: Cristiano Jr, 16, Ronaldo’s son from a previous relationship, twins Eva Maria and Mateo, 9, Alana, 8, and Bella, 4.
Rodriguez, 32, announced their engagement last year by sharing a photo of her ring on social media. Her message translated as: “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.”
Rodriguez has also built a huge following on social media during her relationship with Ronaldo. A Netflix documentary about her life, titled “I am Georgina”, was first released in 2022, with further seasons following in 2023 and 2024.
Ronaldo spent part of the summer representing Portugal at the World Cup. However, his tournament ended in disappointment when Roberto Martinez’s team were knocked out by eventual champions Spain in the round of 16.
During the tournament, Ronaldo confirmed in an interview with Morgan that he and Rodriguez planned to get married later in the summer.
He said: “I hope to arrive at my wedding with the champion’s trophy. I’m going to marry her because I believe it’s the right time. Not just because she’s the mother of my children — but because she’s the person I love most.”
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League after leaving the Red Devils. Rodriguez has been alongside Ronaldo during several important stages of his career, including his time at Juventus and his emotional return to Manchester United in 2021.
After Portugal’s defeat to Spain, Ronaldo confirmed that it was his final appearance at a World Cup as he enters the closing years of his career.
“I’m sad to be leaving the World Cup like this.
“I gave it my all. I did my best. It was my last World Cup, yes, but I’ll now have time to reflect and be with my family. I won’t be making any rash decisions.
“I don’t decide anything in the heat of the moment. Now is not important whether I will continue [to play]. Tomorrow I will get up the same way I got up today: with a clear conscience.
“I played 23 years in the national team and won three titles. Before Cristiano, Portugal had not won anything. The Euros was the most important. For me, 2016 has the same dimension as a World Cup, honestly.”
