ALEJANDRO GARNACHO’S outfit choice on his holidays has caused a stir.
The Manchester United ace donned an Al-Ittihad shirt while getting in some pre-season preparation, leading fans to worry that it might annoy his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
Garnacho has openly shown his admiration of Ronaldo, from wearing the superstar’s underwear brand on the pitch to naming himself ‘Cristiano’ during a game of bowling with his friends.
And he even got to share a pitch with Ronaldo six times during the Portuguese bagsman’s second spell at Old Trafford.
However, Garnacho risks upsetting his inspiration by posing in an Al-Ittihad shirt with the Saudi Arabian side fierce rivals of Ronaldo’s current club Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Fans were shocked and confused by the picture of Garnacho wearing the Al-Ittihad colours, taking to social media to react.
One wrote: “His idol plays for Al Nassr, why’s he wearing Al-Ittihad’s jersey?”
While another added: “Why not Al Nassr’s jersey to support his idol????”
A third slammed: “Embarrassing”.
And a fourth commented: “Not even wearing his idols shirt!”
Garnacho was wearing the shirt as he got in some late fitness work ahead of the start of the upcoming campaign.
The 20-year-old is yet to rejoin his Man Utd teammates after he was given an extended break following his Copa America success with Argentina this summer.
He was joined for his training by United teammate Facundo Pellistri who is also on a delayed summer break after competing in the Copa America with Uruguay.
Fans think that United boss Erik ten Hag may not be too pleased with the Garnacho’s fashion choices either, with some suggesting his Al-Ittihad snap could be a way of suggesting he is up for a transfer.
One wrote: “Bro wants that Saudi move!”
And another chimed in: “Bro is forcing his way out of Man Utd.”
Garnacho scored 10 goals in all competitions last season, including the match-winning finish in United’s FA Cup triumph over neighbours Man City at Wembley.
Man Utd are currently on a pre-season tour of the United States and got their preparations off to a shaky start with 2-1 defeat at the hands of rivals Arsenal in LA last week.
They face Real Betis in San Diego next up before a friendly clash with Liverpool in South Carolina on Saturday night to round up their tour.
Ten Hag’s side will then head to Wembley for the annual curtain raiser as they take on Man City in the Community Shield on August 10.
