Gianni Infantino is under fresh pressure after reports revealed that he received $1.76 million from a FIFA-linked World Cup 2026 company, while the payment was not listed in FIFA’s public compensation report.
FIFA President Faces Questions Over Hidden $1.76m Payment
FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing fresh scrutiny after reports revealed that he received $1.76 million from a company linked to the organisation of the 2026 World Cup.

The payment was reportedly made by FWC2026 US Inc, a US-based company created by FIFA to help organise the tournament.
The controversy comes from the fact that the full amount did not appear in FIFA’s public compensation report for 2024.
That has raised new questions about transparency at the highest level of world football.
Where did the $1.76m come from?
According to tax documents reported by The Times, FWC2026 US Inc paid Infantino a total of around $1.76 million in 2024.
The company is connected to FIFA’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Part of the payment was reportedly listed as salary and other compensation.
More than $600,000 was recorded as “other reportable compensation,” adding further attention to the payments.
FIFA publicly reported a different compensation figure
FIFA’s official annual report for 2024 listed Infantino’s compensation separately.
According to the organisation, the president received a basic salary, a performance-related payment and a fixed allowance.

The total publicly reported amount was around 4.27 million Swiss francs.
However, the additional $1.76 million from FWC2026 US Inc was not clearly included in that public compensation section.
This difference is now at the centre of the controversy.
Former FIFA governance official calls for investigation
The situation has attracted criticism from former FIFA governance officials.
Miguel Maduro, who previously chaired FIFA’s Governance Committee, said that if the extra payment was not properly disclosed, it could represent a serious transparency problem.
He described the situation as a possible breach of FIFA’s own rules.
Maduro also called for an independent investigation into the payments.
Why the issue is sensitive
FIFA rules require the individual compensation of senior officials, including the president, to be publicly disclosed.

That requirement was introduced as part of reforms designed to improve transparency after previous scandals inside world football’s governing body.
Because of that, any additional payment linked to FIFA that does not appear clearly in public reports can create serious questions.
Reports also raise questions about Miami expenses
The investigation also looked at Infantino’s living arrangements in Miami.
FIFA has moved significant parts of its World Cup 2026 operations to the United States, with Infantino spending more time there.

Reports suggested that some expenses may have been connected to housing and other benefits related to his work in Miami.
However, these details remain part of media reporting and have not been confirmed as wrongdoing by any court or official investigation.
Could there be more payments?
The 2024 payment may not be the only one being examined.
Reports have suggested that similar payments could have continued in later years.
However, the clearest figure currently available from tax documents is the $1.76 million reported for 2024.
There is not yet enough public evidence to confirm the exact total that may have been paid in 2025 or 2026.
FIFA responds to the allegations
FIFA has defended the way Infantino’s compensation is handled.
A spokesperson said the president’s salary and contractual benefits are decided by the organisation’s compensation system.

FIFA also said that benefits such as pension, social security and other contractual payments are reported to US tax authorities where required.
However, questions remain over why the full $1.76 million was not clearly visible in FIFA’s public compensation report.
No evidence of illegal payment so far
There is an important distinction in this case.
The current controversy is about transparency and disclosure.

There has been no official finding that Infantino received illegal money.
The issue is whether FIFA properly disclosed all compensation connected to its president and whether its own governance rules were followed.
Pressure grows on Infantino
The timing of the controversy is especially sensitive.
Infantino is preparing for another important period in FIFA politics, with the next presidential election approaching in 2027.
He has also faced criticism from some football officials over governance and decision-making.
A new dispute over compensation and transparency could therefore create even more pressure around his leadership.
FIFA faces new transparency questions
The $1.76 million payment has now become another test of FIFA’s commitment to transparency.
Infantino may have received the money through legal and contractual arrangements.
But the lack of clear public disclosure has created a major question that FIFA may now have to answer in more detail.
For now, the biggest issue is not whether the payment existed. It is why such a large amount was not clearly shown in FIFA’s own public compensation report.
