Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal yearns to shine with the Spanish national team at the 2026 World Cup finals to reach the level of legends.

Lamine Yamal is counting down the days to step onto the biggest stage of his career at the 2026 World Cup. Despite constantly being compared by experts to Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar, Yamal asserts that he wants to forge his own path. In an interview with FIFA, the attacker shared:

“My goal is not to be compared to them, but to be mentioned alongside them. That way, my name will be in that group. If you keep busy comparing yourself to others, you can shoot yourself in the foot. I want to find my own path, enjoy the game, and bring smiles to people. And when I retire, I hope people will still enjoy rewatching me play.”

The forward’s confidence is completely well-founded following a brilliant season. He scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists, helping Barcelona successfully defend their La Liga title, while also winning the Laureus Young Athlete of the Year award. Previously, Yamal also shone to help Spain win EURO 2024.

Currently, Yamal is racing against time to recover from a hamstring injury sustained in late April. Head coach Luis de la Fuente is being extremely cautious with his pupil’s recovery process, but the coaching staff trusts he will reach peak physical condition when the tournament kicks off.

In the upcoming campaign, Spain is in Group H and will play their opening match against Cape Verde, before subsequently facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
