Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could finally become teammates in a special farewell match. Carlos Tevez has officially announced the date of his tribute game, with both football legends expected to receive invitations.
Messi and Ronaldo Could Finally Play Together as Special Match Date Is Confirmed
Football fans could finally witness something they have dreamed about for years: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing together on the same team.
Carlos Tevez has officially confirmed the date of his farewell match, which could bring the two football legends together for an unforgettable occasion.
The former Manchester United and Argentina star announced that his special tribute game will take place on December 20, 2026, at La Bombonera, the famous home of Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires.
And the biggest attraction could be the possible reunion of Messi and Ronaldo, two players who have spent much of their careers competing against each other.
Carlos Tevez officially confirms farewell match date
On October 20, Carlos Tevez shared the exciting announcement through his social media accounts and the official page of the event, Adiós Apache.
The former striker confirmed that his long-awaited farewell celebration will take place on Sunday, December 20.
The event will be held at La Bombonera, where Tevez became one of Boca Juniors’ most popular players.
“The date we were all waiting for,” the announcement said.
The celebration will honour Tevez’s successful career and give supporters one more opportunity to watch their hero on the pitch.
However, the exact kick-off time has not yet been announced.
Messi and Ronaldo could play on the same team
One of the most exciting possibilities surrounding the event is the presence of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to Argentine newspaper Infobae, Tevez plans to personally invite both superstars to his farewell match.
If both players accept their invitations, they could play together on the same team for the first time in their careers.
This would be a historic moment for football fans around the world.
Messi and Ronaldo dominated world football for more than 15 years, winning major trophies and breaking countless records.
They also created one of the greatest individual rivalries in sporting history.
However, despite facing each other many times, the two legends have never played as teammates in an official match.
Tevez’s farewell game could finally make that dream a reality.
Why does Tevez want Messi and Ronaldo together?
Carlos Tevez has a special connection with both players.
He played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United between 2007 and 2009.
During that period, the two forwards helped United win the Premier League and the 2008 Champions League.
Tevez also shared the pitch with Lionel Messi for Argentina, representing his country in major international tournaments.
Because of these close connections, Tevez hopes to bring together some of the greatest players he met during his career.
According to reports, one possible plan would see Messi and Ronaldo join a team of international stars against former Boca Juniors players.
However, the final teams and match format have not yet been officially confirmed.
Other football legends could join the celebration
Messi and Ronaldo are not the only famous players being linked with the event.
Tevez played for several major clubs during his career, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Boca Juniors.
That means his farewell match could feature many familiar faces from different generations of football.
Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, Ángel Di María, Sergio Agüero, Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon are among the stars mentioned as possible guests.
Other former teammates from Argentina and Boca Juniors could also be invited.
According to Infobae, the organisers are planning a major celebration that may include live music and entertainment alongside the football match.
ESPN is expected to broadcast the event.
However, the complete player list has not yet been released.
Have Messi and Ronaldo confirmed their participation?
Despite the excitement surrounding the announcement, there is one important detail.
Neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo has officially confirmed that he will take part in the match.
Tevez wants both players to attend, but their availability will depend on their personal decisions and football commitments.
The organisers have confirmed the date and location of the farewell match, not the participation of the two superstars.
Therefore, reports suggesting that Messi and Ronaldo are already confirmed to play together should be treated with caution.
More details about the guests and ticket sales are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
