Real Madrid Suffer Major Shock Just Hours Before El Clasico Against Barcelona
Real Madrid have suffered a major setback just hours before their highly anticipated El Clasico clash against Barcelona, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois officially ruled out of the match.
The Spanish giants confirmed the unexpected news on Sunday, October 25, leaving manager Jose Mourinho with a serious problem ahead of one of the biggest matches of the season.
Real Madrid confirm Courtois’ unexpected absence
According to an official statement from Real Madrid, Courtois will miss the match because of a flu-like illness.
The Belgian goalkeeper was originally included in the squad but was removed shortly before the team travelled to Barcelona.
Young goalkeeper Illia Voloshyn has been called up to replace him in the squad.
Courtois has started all 12 of Real Madrid’s competitive matches this season, making his sudden absence a major concern.
Andriy Lunin set for huge El Clasico opportunity
With Courtois unavailable, Andriy Lunin is expected to start against Barcelona.
The Ukrainian goalkeeper has not played a competitive minute for Real Madrid this season.
However, Lunin has experience in important matches and will hope to prove himself on one of football’s biggest stages.
The situation is especially difficult for Mourinho because Real Madrid are already missing several important players.
Vinicius Junior remains suspended, while Rodrygo, Raul Asencio and Ferland Mendy are unavailable through injury.
Real Madrid face a difficult challenge against Barcelona
The match will take place at Spotify Camp Nou on October 25, with kick-off scheduled for 9 pm local time.
Barcelona currently lead La Liga with 27 points, while Real Madrid sit six points behind their biggest rivals.
A victory for Barcelona would increase the gap between the two teams to nine points.
With several key players missing, Real Madrid now face an even tougher challenge.
Courtois’ unexpected absence could become a major problem for Mourinho as his team prepare for a crucial El Clasico showdown.
