Despite overcoming Panama with a score of 2-0 on the morning of June 28, the England national team is falling into an alarming situation as three right-backs have all sustained injuries.
Coach Thomas Tuchel is facing a difficult squad dilemma in New Jersey (USA). Although the England team has just closed out the group stage with a 2-0 victory over Panama, the joy of the “Three Lions” is incomplete as the injury list at the right-back position continues to extend.
Everything started from Tino Livramento’s injury, then became more severe with the case of Reece James. Most recently, at the MetLife Stadium, Jarell Quansah was the next name to encounter a problem. The young defender on the books of Bayer Leverkusen was arranged by Tuchel to play out of his natural position on the right flank to fill the blank space, but he also had to leave the pitch early due to an ankle injury.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Tuchel confirmed: “Quansah has an ankle sprain and is in a lot of pain. He said he had experienced a similar injury and recovered after a few days. We hope that scenario repeats, but currently, the injured area has to be compressed and iced.”
Previously, Reece James’s absence was an unexpected shock for the coaching staff. The Chelsea star currently has to carry out an accelerated recovery routine after encountering a hamstring issue, causing him to miss the most recent training sessions.
With the loss of all three choices for the right-back position, the German strategist is forced to search for makeshift options to patch up the lineup before entering the knockout round.
