Kylian Mbappé scored twice in Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano, taking his club total to 92 goals and leaving him only eight away from the historic 100-goal mark reached by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Kylian Mbappé moves closer to Cristiano Ronaldo’s historic Real Madrid milestone
Kylian Mbappé is now only eight goals away from reaching 100 for Real Madrid after another impressive performance against Rayo Vallecano.
The French superstar scored twice as José Mourinho’s side claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.
His double took him to 92 goals for Real Madrid across all competitions.
That means Mbappé is now just eight goals away from joining the club’s 100-goal club, a milestone Cristiano Ronaldo famously reached early in his Real Madrid career.
Mbappé scores twice against Rayo
Mbappé opened the scoring after only 14 minutes.
Álvaro Carreras was brought down inside the penalty area and Mbappé stepped up to take the spot-kick.

The France captain calmly converted the penalty to give Real Madrid the lead.
Carreras and Jude Bellingham then added two more goals before half-time.
Rayo pulled one back shortly after the break, but Mbappé had the final word.
In added time, Arda Güler found Mbappé and the striker produced a first-time finish to complete his brace and Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory.
Only eight goals away from 100
The second goal was particularly important for Mbappé’s personal numbers.
He now has 92 goals for Real Madrid across all competitions.
The calculation is simple:
92 goals now.
Eight more needed.
100 Real Madrid goals.
Mbappé only joined the Spanish giants in 2024, making the speed of his scoring record even more impressive.
Cristiano Ronaldo set an incredible standard
Any Real Madrid striker reaching 100 goals will naturally be compared with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese legend reached the century mark in November 2011.
Ronaldo scored 100 official goals for Real Madrid in just 105 appearances.
He reached the milestone after scoring twice against Lyon in the Champions League.
That scoring rate helped establish Ronaldo as one of the most dangerous forwards in football history.
Mbappé is following a similar path
Mbappé is now approaching the same landmark during the early part of his third season in Madrid.
GOAL noted that only eight goals now separate him from the century mark.

Real Madrid have six La Liga matches and two Champions League games coming up in the period highlighted in the comparison.
That gives Mbappé eight matches in which to try to score the eight goals required to reach 100.
With his current form, the possibility cannot be ignored.
Important clarification about Ronaldo’s record
There is one important point when comparing the two players.
Mbappé is chasing Ronaldo’s historic 100-goal milestone, but he is not currently in position to break Ronaldo’s 105-game record for reaching 100 goals.
Ronaldo’s achievement remains extraordinary because of how few matches he needed to reach the century.
The current comparison is therefore more about how quickly Mbappé has moved towards 100 during his first few seasons at Real Madrid.
It should not be described as Mbappé being eight goals away from breaking Ronaldo’s appearance record.
Mbappé has started the season in excellent form
The Rayo double also continued Mbappé’s strong start to the 2026/27 campaign.
He now has seven goals in six matches across all competitions this season.
Six of those goals have come in La Liga.
That has put Mbappé level with Raphinha in the early race for the Pichichi award.
His latest performance also came only days after he scored against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
Ronaldo comparisons continue to follow Mbappé
Comparisons between Mbappé and Ronaldo have followed the Frenchman since his arrival in Madrid.
Ronaldo scored 450 goals during his legendary Real Madrid career and became the club’s all-time leading scorer.

Mbappé still has a very long way to go before challenging that total, but reaching 100 goals would be another major step.
The French striker has previously made it clear that he respects Ronaldo while also wanting to create his own story at the Bernabéu.
The countdown is now on
Mbappé’s numbers continue to grow quickly.
And after his latest two goals against Rayo, the next major landmark is now clearly visible.
92 Real Madrid goals.

Eight away from 100.
Seven goals in six games this season.
If Mbappé continues scoring at his current rate, it may not take long before he joins another exclusive Real Madrid list.
Cristiano Ronaldo once set the standard by reaching 100 goals at extraordinary speed. Now Kylian Mbappé is closing in on the same historic milestone.
