Vozinha has extended his impressive start at Colo-Colo after keeping another clean sheet in the 0-0 draw against Huachipato.

The 40-year-old Cape Verde international made his first Liga de Primera start for the Chilean giants and once again finished the match without conceding.

It means Vozinha has now played 180 minutes for Colo-Colo across his opening two starts and is yet to allow a goal.

Another clean sheet for Vozinha

Vozinha had previously made his Colo-Colo debut in the Copa Chile, helping his side secure a 3-0 victory over Unión Española.

His second appearance produced another shutout, taking his early record to two matches, two clean sheets and zero goals conceded.

However, the statistics do not tell the full story of his league debut.

Huachipato failed to register a shot on target, meaning Vozinha was rarely required to make a conventional save throughout the match.

With Huachipato creating little threat on goal, much of Vozinha’s involvement came in possession.

The experienced goalkeeper completed 19 of his 20 attempted passes, giving him a passing accuracy of around 95%.

His distribution helped Colo-Colo build from the back, although the home side were unable to turn their possession into a winning goal.

Vozinha did experience one uncomfortable moment before half-time.

The goalkeeper came off his line to deal with a cross but failed to claim the ball cleanly, allowing Huachipato an opportunity to shoot toward an exposed goal.

Arturo Vidal reacted quickly to clear the danger near the goal line, although the move was later ruled offside.

It proved to be Vozinha’s most difficult moment of an otherwise quiet evening.

Fernando Ortiz makes interesting admission

Colo-Colo coach Fernando Ortiz was asked about Vozinha’s performance after the match.

Ortiz admitted that there was very little to analyse because the goalkeeper had barely been forced into action.

The coach said most of Vozinha’s involvement came with the ball at his feet and suggested there was little he could criticise about the veteran’s display.

However, Ortiz stopped short of guaranteeing that Vozinha will remain his first-choice goalkeeper.

Starting position still not guaranteed

Despite consecutive clean sheets, competition for the goalkeeper position remains open.

Ortiz indicated that Vozinha and Gabriel Maureira will continue competing in training before a decision is made for Colo-Colo’s next match against Deportes Concepción.

That leaves Vozinha in an unusual position.

He has not conceded since joining the starting lineup, but he has still not secured a permanent place between the posts.

Huachipato goalkeeper Christian Bravo, 20, produced several important saves and emerged as one of the standout performers of the goalless draw.

Vozinha approached the young goalkeeper after the final whistle to congratulate him and encourage him to continue performing at a high level.

Vozinha may not have been required to produce a spectacular goalkeeping performance against Huachipato, but his record remains difficult to ignore.
