Forward Mason Greenwood is getting very close to joining Fenerbahce in this summer’s transfer window.
According to Turkish media, the English striker has reached personal terms with Hakan Safi, a candidate for the Fenerbahce presidency. This information was later confirmed by Safi himself during a press conference. If elected, Safi will proceed to sign a four-year contract with Greenwood.

Shortly after the news was announced, Greenwood “liked” Safi’s post and started following the Fenerbahce presidential candidate on social media.
Marseille’s Financial Push
Greenwood is currently a Marseille player, but the French club is willing to sell the 24-year-old star for the right price. The decision stems from a difficult financial situation, which is forcing Marseille to raise a significant amount of funds before their financial deadline at the end of June.
AS Roma has been one of the teams pursuing Greenwood. However, the biggest obstacle for the Serie A representative lies in finances. Marseille is demanding around €50 million for the deal, while Roma is only willing to spend about €40 million.
Fenerbahce Steps In and Manchester United’s Windfall
Fenerbahce quickly approached and has reportedly made significant progress in negotiations with both Greenwood and Marseille. If this deal is completed, the English striker’s former club, Manchester United (MU), stands to earn a substantial amount of money.
In the contract selling Greenwood to Marseille in the summer of 2024, the “Red Devils” inserted a 50% sell-on clause if the forward moves to a third club, according to Sky Sports. Thus, if Marseille sells Greenwood for €50 million, MU could receive around €25 million from the aforementioned clause.
