Head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Neymar will undergo an MRI next Monday to assess the recovery progress of his right calf injury. This is a crucial effort to help the 34-year-old forward regain his fitness in time for the 2026 World Cup.

Currently, the Santos star is still training individually and is absent from full team sessions due to a Grade 2 muscle injury. According to ESPN, Ancelotti stated: “I think his situation is quite clear. Neymar is doing very well with his individual recovery process. After this weekend, he will have an MRI and if all goes well, he can train with the rest of the squad next week.”

Neymar did not travel with the team to Cleveland for the friendly match against Egypt, opting to remain at the training center in New Jersey to continue his treatment. He suffered the injury during a match between Santos and Coritiba on May 17.

Initially, Santos diagnosed him with edema causing calf swelling, but the Brazilian national team’s medical staff determined the issue was muscular and would require at least two weeks to recover.

Neymar is currently Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer with 79 goals. However, he has not played for the national team since suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in October 2023, and has constantly struggled with his fitness since then.

At the 2026 World Cup, the Brazil national team is in Group C and will play their opening match against Morocco in New Jersey on June 14, followed by clashes against Haiti and Scotland on June 20 and June 25, respectively.
