Cucurella grew up in the Barcelona youth academy before moving on to play for Eibar, Getafe, Brighton, and then Chelsea. After a difficult period when he first arrived at Stamford Bridge, the defender gradually proved his worth with consistent performances at both the club and national team levels.

His ability to consistently contribute to both attack and defense, his abundant stamina, and his tactical flexibility have helped Cucurella become one of the highly-rated left-backs in Europe. This is something Real Madrid truly needs in the context of their flanks being somewhat ineffective in the 2025/26 season.

For Real Madrid, the signing of Cucurella shows their determination to upgrade squad depth ahead of the new season. The Spanish Royal club is aiming to reinforce important positions in their squad rebuild following a disastrous 2025/26 season.

Last season, Cucurella made 34 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 1 goal and providing 4 assists. He was a rare factor with consistent form in a highly unstable “Blues” collective. He is currently focused with the Spanish national team competing at the 2026 World Cup in North America.
