Erik ten Hag has warned that Manchester United could face relegation from the Premier League after falling to 17th place following another defeat under Michael Carrick.
Ten Hag Warns Manchester United Could Be Relegated After Another Shocking Defeat
Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made a shocking statement, warning that his former club could be relegated from the Premier League this season.
The Dutch coach spoke out after Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on October 31.
The result left Michael Carrick’s side sitting 17th in the Premier League table, just above the relegation zone.
And Ten Hag believes the danger of relegation is now a real possibility.
Ten Hag makes shocking relegation warning
Speaking to ESPN Netherlands, Ten Hag was asked whether Manchester United could really be relegated this season.
His response immediately attracted attention.
“In the Premier League it’s certainly possible, because all the teams are simply strong,” Ten Hag said.
The former United manager explained that every Premier League team has quality players and experienced coaches.
He warned that once a club enters a long period of poor results, escaping that situation can become extremely difficult.
However, Ten Hag did not say United would definitely go down. He only warned that relegation could happen.
Manchester United face serious crisis under Carrick
Manchester United have experienced a terrible start to the 2026/27 season.
After nine Premier League matches, the Red Devils have collected just seven points and recorded only one victory.
United have also gone nine consecutive matches without a win across all competitions, their worst such run since 1984.
Their latest defeat against Chelsea has increased pressure on Michael Carrick, with fans growing increasingly concerned about the team’s future.
Ten Hag reminds fans of his achievements
Ten Hag also defended his time at Manchester United, where he worked between 2022 and 2024.
During his time in charge, he helped the club win the League Cup and FA Cup.
He also guided United to third place in the Premier League during his first season.
“Look where they are now,” Ten Hag said while discussing the club’s current struggles.
The Dutchman is now working as technical director at FC Twente in the Netherlands.
Could Manchester United really be relegated?
Manchester United have not been relegated from England’s top division since 1974.
However, their current position has raised serious concerns about whether they could face another historic disaster.
Carrick now faces growing pressure to improve results and move the club away from the bottom of the table.
And with Ten Hag openly warning about relegation, the situation at Old Trafford has become even more worrying.
