Solskjaer Opens Door to Man Utd Return as Carrick Faces Uncertain Future
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he would consider returning to Manchester United as pressure continues to grow on current manager Michael Carrick.
The Norwegian coach made the surprising statement during an interview with TV 2, as United continue to struggle in the Premier League.
However, Solskjaer also made it clear that he still supports Carrick and is not actively looking to replace him.
Solskjaer speaks about possible Man Utd return
Solskjaer was asked whether he would consider managing Manchester United again.
The former United boss admitted that Old Trafford still holds a special place in his heart.
“Of course I wouldn’t say no,” Solskjaer said when discussing a possible future return.

However, he was describing a hypothetical situation in which Carrick enjoys ten successful years before leaving the club.
Solskjaer also admitted he still feels he has unfinished business at Manchester United.
Solskjaer reveals previous talks with United
The Norwegian also revealed that he spoke with Manchester United officials in January 2026, after Ruben Amorim was dismissed.
He held discussions with Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada about the club’s future.
“I offered to step in if needed, and I made no demands,” Solskjaer explained.
However, he confirmed that no contract negotiations took place.
United eventually appointed Carrick, who later signed a permanent contract in May.
Solskjaer backs Carrick despite growing pressure
Despite speculation about his return, Solskjaer believes Carrick remains the right man for the job.
“Michael has what it takes to take that club forward. I think he’s the right man,” he said.

Manchester United are currently 17th in the Premier League after a difficult start to the 2026/27 season.
The Red Devils have collected just seven points from nine matches, increasing pressure on Carrick.
Could Solskjaer return to Old Trafford?
Solskjaer previously managed Manchester United from 2018 to 2021 and remains a popular figure among supporters.
His latest comments have raised fresh questions about a possible comeback.
However, there is currently no confirmed agreement for Solskjaer to replace Carrick.
For now, Carrick remains in charge, while Solskjaer has left the door open to a possible return in the future.
