The former Liverpool defender believes both men are allowing their personal relationship with Ronaldo to affect their judgment.

Carragher even suggested they are trying to defend something that should not be defended.

Carragher takes aim at Morgan and Ferdinand

Speaking on The Overlap Daily, Carragher criticised the way Morgan and Ferdinand have reacted to Ronaldo’s dispute with Portugal coach Jorge Jesus.

He suggested both men are too close to Ronaldo and are therefore trying to protect him.

Carragher said their reaction was becoming embarrassing.

He also argued that people working in the media should remain objective, even when they have a good relationship with a player.

“Defending the indefensible”

Carragher’s strongest criticism came when he suggested Morgan and Ferdinand were trying to defend the “indefensible”.

For the former Liverpool star, Ronaldo’s decision to leave the Portugal camp cannot simply be ignored because of his status in the game.

He believes being one of the greatest players of all time should not protect Ronaldo from criticism.

Carragher’s message was clear: friendship should not stop pundits from being honest.

Why Rio Ferdinand was criticised

Rio Ferdinand has publicly supported Ronaldo since the Portugal controversy began.

The former Manchester United defender has questioned how Jorge Jesus handled the situation and suggested Ronaldo deserved more respect.

Ferdinand has also argued that the coach should explain his decisions clearly.

But Carragher believes Ferdinand’s history and friendship with Ronaldo may be influencing his opinion.

Piers Morgan also under fire

Piers Morgan has been one of Ronaldo’s strongest public supporters for years.

He has repeatedly defended the Portugal captain and criticised coaches who he believes have treated Ronaldo unfairly.

Morgan has also compared the current situation with Ronaldo’s difficult final period at Manchester United.

Carragher believes this close relationship makes it difficult for Morgan to judge Ronaldo’s actions fairly.

Carragher also questions Ronaldo

The criticism was not only aimed at Morgan and Ferdinand.

Carragher also questioned Ronaldo’s own behaviour during the Portugal dispute.

He suggested the superstar sometimes wants too much attention to be focused on him.

He even raised the possibility that Ronaldo’s actions could increase pressure on Jorge Jesus.

However, this was Carragher’s personal opinion and there is no evidence that Ronaldo is trying to get the coach removed.

Gary Neville takes a different position

Another former Manchester United teammate of Ronaldo, Gary Neville, has taken a very different approach from Ferdinand.

Neville has said he still respects and admires Ronaldo.

However, he also believes some of Ronaldo’s recent actions cannot simply be defended.

That difference has made the debate even more interesting, because two of Ronaldo’s former teammates are now taking very different positions.

Ronaldo debate divides English football

The latest comments show how strongly Ronaldo continues to divide opinion.

Some believe he deserves more respect because of everything he has achieved for club and country.

Others believe his legendary status should not stop people from criticising his behaviour.

Carragher clearly belongs to the second group.

Media battle around Ronaldo grows

The Portugal controversy is no longer only about Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus.

It has now created a wider debate involving some of the biggest names in English football media.

Morgan and Ferdinand continue to defend Ronaldo, while Carragher has now openly challenged their position.

And with Ronaldo’s Portugal future still uncertain, this argument looks unlikely to end soon.
