According to The Athletic, Vinicius and Real Madrid have reached an agreement on a new contract, ending all transfer rumours linking him with Arsenal.
Vinicius has signed a new deal that will keep him at Real Madrid until 2032. The club officially announced the contract extension to fans in the early hours of August 7.
“President Florentino Perez has always seen Vinicius as a key part of Real Madrid’s future plans. Head coach Jose Mourinho also played an important role in convincing the player to stay at the Bernabeu,” transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed.
Real Madrid and Vinicius held an important meeting on August 5 to discuss his future. During the talks, the Spanish club presented a significantly improved contract offer, showing how important the Brazil international is to their long-term project.
Before reaching the agreement, Vinicius had three possible options: sign a new contract with Real Madrid, wait until the summer of 2027 to become a free agent, or accept an offer from Arsenal. However, sources close to the player said he decided to continue his career at the Bernabeu, ending the Premier League champions’ hopes of signing him.
Arsenal had reportedly made Vinicius their number one attacking target after winning the Premier League title last season. The club’s board fully supported the plan to bring the Brazilian star to the Emirates.
For Real Madrid, keeping Vinicius is a major success. Since joining from Flamengo in 2018, he has made 375 appearances, scored 128 goals, and provided 100 assists. He has also helped the Spanish giants win three La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies.
Last season, Vinicius scored 22 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions, despite Real Madrid finishing the campaign without winning a major trophy.
