Lamine Yamal has sent another major warning before the 2026 Ballon d’Or after recording eight goals and nine assists in just 10 Barcelona appearances this season.

Lamine Yamal Shakes Up Ballon d’Or Race With Stunning Numbers

Lamine Yamal has sent another huge warning ahead of the 2026 Ballon d’Or after producing incredible numbers for Barcelona at the start of the season.

The Spanish superstar has been one of the most impressive players in Europe since returning from the World Cup.

After only 10 appearances for Barcelona this season, Yamal has already recorded eight goals and nine assists.

That gives him an incredible 17 direct goal contributions in just 10 matches.

Yamal reaches 17 goal contributions

Yamal’s start to the season has been remarkable.

His numbers after his first 10 Barcelona matches stand at:

8 goals

9 assists

17 goal contributions

The 19-year-old has been scoring goals while also becoming one of Barcelona’s biggest creative threats.

Few players in Europe have matched his level of attacking influence during the opening weeks of the campaign.

Yamal moves ahead of Mbappe comparison

The numbers become even more impressive when compared with Kylian Mbappe at the same age.

During a similar 10-game period as a 19-year-old at Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe recorded 12 goals and four assists.

That gave the French superstar 16 direct goal contributions.

Yamal has now reached 17 after the same number of matches, putting him one ahead of Mbappe in the comparison.

Mbappe scored more goals, but Yamal’s nine assists have helped him move ahead in total goal contributions.

Messi numbers also enter the debate

Lionel Messi has also been brought into the discussion.

A recent comparison highlighted Messi’s numbers during the 2008-09 season, when the Barcelona legend eventually won his first Ballon d’Or.

At the point used in the comparison, Messi had eight goals and six assists for 14 goal contributions.

Yamal’s current total of 17 is higher than the Messi figure used in that comparison.

However, the comparison is not completely equal because Messi was older during the 2008-09 season.

It should therefore be viewed as a comparison of attacking numbers rather than proof that Yamal has already achieved more than Messi at the same age.

Galatasaray performance increases the hype

Yamal strengthened his numbers with another excellent Champions League performance against Galatasaray.

Barcelona secured an impressive 4-1 victory in Istanbul.

Yamal provided two assists and was again one of the biggest attacking threats on the pitch.

The performance continued his brilliant start to the European campaign and added even more momentum to his Ballon d’Or push.

Yamal also makes Champions League history

The Galatasaray match brought another historic achievement for the Barcelona star.

Yamal became the youngest player in Champions League history to provide at least two assists in two consecutive appearances.

He achieved the record at just 19 years and 92 days old.

His four Champions League assists this season have also placed him among the competition’s leading creators.

Ballon d’Or race enters final stage

The timing of Yamal’s form could hardly be better.

The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is now approaching, with Yamal competing against some of the biggest stars in world football.

Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane are among the other leading names being discussed.

Yamal has already made clear that he believes his performances and trophies give him a strong case to win football’s biggest individual award.

Not an official Ballon d’Or ranking

There is one important clarification.

Yamal’s 17 goal contributions do not mean that he has officially moved above Messi or Mbappe in the Ballon d’Or voting.

The comparison is based on attacking statistics and recent form.

The official Ballon d’Or result has not yet been announced.

That means claims that Yamal has already beaten his rivals in the final vote would be premature.

Flick praises Barcelona superstar

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has also praised Yamal after his latest Champions League performance.

The German coach said it was natural that so much attention was being placed on the young forward because of the quality he produces in training and matches.

Yamal has become one of the players Barcelona can depend on when they need someone to change a game.

And his numbers explain why the football world continues to watch him so closely.

Yamal sends major Ballon d’Or warning

At only 19, Yamal is already competing with some of the biggest names in football for the game’s top individual prize.

Eight goals and nine assists from his first 10 Barcelona matches have strengthened his case at exactly the right moment.

His 17 goal contributions put him one ahead of Mbappe’s 16 in the 10-game comparison and above the Messi figure highlighted from his first Ballon d’Or-winning season.

Those numbers do not decide the Ballon d’Or on their own.

But with the ceremony getting closer, Yamal has delivered another powerful message to his rivals.
