According to various sources from Brazil, during the training session preparing for the match against Haiti at the 2026 World Cup, Neymar appeared visibly saddened following a conversation with head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian tactician informed Neymar that the superstar had not reached the required fitness level to be included in the matchday squad. This means that even a spot on the bench to encourage his teammates on the pitch is out of reach for the biggest star of Brazilian football over the past decade.
Despite receiving the decision he least wanted to hear in the calmest manner possible, feelings of sadness were inevitable. Neymar could only bow his head and leave quietly. He knows his time with the “Selecao” is running out.
Neymar is still continuing his recovery process from a right calf injury. Since leaving PSG for Al Hilal, the 34-year-old star has been frequently plagued by injuries. He played just 7 matches across all competitions for the wealthy Saudi Arabian club and had to return to his boyhood club Santos to rediscover his form on the pitch.
Neymar’s absence is a significant loss for Brazil, especially as the team desperately needs a victory against Haiti following a draw on their opening day. However, the Selecao coaching staff does not want to take any risks with the fitness of the player who has served as the national team’s leader for over a decade.
According to the plan, the player born in 1992 will remain at the training center to complete the final stages of his recovery. The Brazilian medical team hopes he can return soon in the upcoming rounds if he meets the necessary physical and professional requirements.
